Maybe someone more... content with everything. Less volatile.
[ One shoulder lifts vaguely. ]
More like you. [ It's not often that Suguru genuinely praises how Gojo conducts himself as cares for his submissive, if only because Suguru tends to scoff instead of acknowledge the way Satoru excels in their environment. ]
[ Suguru chuckles through a shiver as he relaxes down against Satoru again. His best friend has a point: the urge to protect and care for Yuji is simply too strong for Suguru. He would never think of handing Yuji off to anyone else for their own amusement, and things are especially convoluted when it comes to Satoru. ]
Yeah. I think you're right. [ And that's weirdly more of a relief than Suguru expected. ]
If everything around us can't change, I want to make a difference at least for him.
[ It's too easy, he thinks, to be this close to Suguru, to let himself curl around him and hold him. Their intimacy might have shifted over the years, might not be the same as it had been in their desperate youth, but... It's still there.
They're always going to love one another. ]
Ahh, you admitted it... A special moment!
[ Laughing, he reaches up and tugs on his hair a little. ]
[ Suguru sighs with far more annoyance than he actually feels for the little tease, reaching down to squeeze Satoru's side in retribution – half-admonishment, half-tickle. ]
Don't ruin the special moment, Satoru, or I'll change my mind. [ lol obviously not. ]
[ Like a pair of puppies. And maybe they remind Suguru of him and Gojo in more than a few ways. ]
And it seems good for Megumi, too. [ Suguru doesn’t spend as much time with the submissive, obviously, but Megumi seems to be coming out of his shell in different ways with Yuji – or maybe Megumi is just more at ease around Suguru now, too. He understands the undercurrent of hostility and distrust that Megumi always seemed to have at the root of his interactions with Geto, and he doesn’t begrudge the younger man that. (Especially when Megumi was probably responding to the parts of Suguru that haven’t fully abandoned the way he felt about Satoru, so… fair enough if Megumi doesn’t like him that much.) ]
Megumi has always been the kind of person to lean into isolation, to let himself feel that tenderness tucked somewhere deep inside of him and not share it with anyone else. He's coming out of his shell with Yuji, in the same way that Megumi had helped give Yuji a little grounding, a little confidence. ]
[ And yet Suguru’s tone is curious instead of aggravated or aggressive. He’s protective of his submissive, possessive a point – but he isn’t bothered by the idea that Megumi might be fond of Yuji beyond the bounds of friendship. ]
I doubt Yuji will let himself think about it that deeply, but I wonder if they would have gravitated towards each other in other ways, if they had the option.
[ If they lived in a world where Megumi and Yuji ever had the chance to make their own choices. Suguru doesn’t see anything wrong with the hypotheticals, especially when those realities are so unrealistic or impossible. ]
[ They had been with each other since childhood, gravitated, pulled. The disappointment when both of them had been given their dominant designation was troubling, because Gojo had been so sure that they would be placed together, that they'd be together for the rest of their lives.
He wasn't completely wrong. They will be together, forever, but in a different shape and form than they'd pictured.
Fingers stroking through Suguru's hair again gently, he sighs softly, eyes closed. ]
It can't be a coincidence that we're all together like this, hmm...
[ Designating Gojo and Geto both as dominants? Intentional. Pairing Gojo with Megumi? Intentional. Putting Yuji with Suguru because he was going to heal Suguru’s heart and bond with Satoru’s prickly submissive? That can’t be more than coincidence.
Suguru sighs, turning his face into Satoru’s shoulder. ]
Maybe we all just caught a break, finally.
[ Because he never thought that Satoru wanted things to play out the way they did, but Satoru’s hands were tied in a completely different fashion. The chains of his clan aren’t so easily broken, and Suguru knows that, no matter how much control Satoru has now. ]
[ Squeezing his arms around Suguru, he hums that absent, little noise he makes when he’s thinking to himself, idly playing with his friend’s hair, spine, curling around the small of his back.
Megumi was an unexpected gift, given to him because of the clans, not because of the threat of real comparability. The fact that they worked so well together and bonded so sweetly was a trick of fate, not intention. It’s the same for Suguru and Yuji. He feels his own warm fondness for his friend’s submissive, and he wonders…
[ Suguru hasn't let himself sink into Satoru for a while – not this close, not this intimate, and maybe he should be more mindful of boundaries that have remained steadfast for ages, but... if he's honest with himself, he needs this. He needs something grounding, something to soothe his nervous system, instead of emphasizing all the reasons he hates the world they live in.
He nods, more of that tension easing out of him as he focuses on steadying his breathing, his heartrate. ]
I'm going to keep him safe. I don't care what it takes.
Gojo hums softly, squeezing him gently, trying to make sure that his best friend is well taken care of, that he's alright, and it's enough for him. It has to be. ]
Something that will suitably rot your teeth out, got it.
[ Suguru can make that happen.
He finally starts shifting to sit upright again on the couch, settling next to Satoru instead of on top of him. Gathering up his mess of hair, Suguru pulls a hairband off of his wrist to tie it up, out of the way in a loose bun. ]
We should check on Yuji and Megumi, make sure they aren't plotting to burn your estate to the ground. [ lol ]

You'd never let me fuck Yuji-kun without you, and Yuji doesn't want someone more like me.
[ Squeezing his arms around his friend, he sighs. ]
If he had someone content, he'd think all the horrible things that happened to him were expected. He needs someone who'll fight in his corner.

Ah, fine, fine. I'll be good.

[ Suguru says it fondly as he rests back into the circle of Satoru's arms, head on the other man's shoulder. ]
We should go check on them, shouldn't we?
no subject
[ Closing his eyes, he tilts his head back. ]
Megumi has probably calmed him down by now. We can wander back in and see what they need.
no subject
I didn’t expect Megumi to get so attached to Yuji.
[ Every inch of Megumi tends to broadcast “fuck you, stay away from me,” and yet with Yuji, those prickly spines retract. ]
no subject
[ Similar, in some ways, to Geto himself. ]
And Yuji is just loud enough that Megumi can tolerate him.

Slowly prying himself up, far enough to look at Satoru with that tired, grateful smile. ]
How am I going to make this up to you? [ Because this is a lot for Suguru to ask. ]

Or dessert! I want something sweet, Suguru!

Megumi would never! He's a good boy!

[ Suguru's just teasing, of course.
Taking a slow, deep breath, Suguru sighs it out and allows the tension in his shoulders to drop another half inch. ]
Shall we?
