It's been super busy! It's really not that much of a surprise...

[ Even when he'd gone to bed the night before he hadn't really thought in his mind about what the date was. He's never been the kind of person to think about those kinds of things, though, and now he feels a little silly for forgetting.

It's not as if he'd ever forget Megumi's birthday, so... ]

Thanks, Megumi. [ Leaning in, he kisses him gently. ] What a perfect way to wake up.

[ Megumi returns the kiss, ruffling Yuji's sleep-messy hair affectionately. ]

C'mon. I'll make you breakfast. [ Birthday breakfast for the birthday boy! ]

[eyescar]

Really? [ He grins, pushing himself up a little, kissing him again as he scrambles for the edge of the bed. ]

Can I have toast and egg?

[gyokukenkon]

You got it.

[ Toast and egg and a birthday cake. Perfect breakfast.

Climbing out of bed, Megumi goes over to fish out some fresh, casual clothes. It's not a school day so he can wear whatever, but he's not going down to the kitchen in his pajamas. ]

[eyescar]

[ Yuji is quick to follow, trailing Megumi around the room like a lost puppy absently, ending up wrapping his arms around him from behind and nuzzling into his neck. ]

You're warm...

[gyokukenkon]

[ Megumi is partway into pulling on his shirt when Yuji winds his arms around him, and he pauses to look over his shoulder at his boyfriend with an amused little huff, leaving the shirt around his elbows. ]

Want to borrow one of my sweaters? [ Readily offering to share his clothes? That's how you know he likes Yuji. ]

[ Yuji's a little too busy nuzzling into him, pressing kisses to the shape of his spine before he breathes out. It's distracting, seeing Megumi all soft like this, and it's hard to focus... ]

... Yeah. I might stretch them out, though.

[gyokukenkon]

[ Even though Megumi was trying to get dressed, he doesn't seem too pressed by the affection – if anything, he's basking in it, not trying to shake Yuji off. ]

So what? I don't care if something's a little big on me later. [ Or he'll just let Yuji borrow the same sweater repeatedly. ]

[eyescar]

[ It is his birthday, so he can do whatever he wants, can't he? Humming, he smiles. ]

You'd look cute in a big sweater...

[gyokukenkon]

You say I look cute in everything.

[ He rolls his eyes at Yuji, even if he's smiling as he glances over his shoulder at his boyfriend. ]

You gotta let go if I'm gonna get one for you.

[eyescar]

Well, that's because you're so cute...

[ Obviously? Stop being cute and he won't be in this situation! ]

I don't want to let go, though... [ But, with a sigh, his arms drop away. ]

[gyokukenkon]

You can't stay glued to me for the whole day, doofus.

[ Megumi finally tugs his shirt on properly, then reaches for one of his slightly-looser pullovers, turning back to Yuji. Rather than simply hand it over, he gathers the sweater up, loops it over Yuji's head, and tugs the fabric down just to fit through the collar. With the rest of the garment just hanging from Yuji's neck, Megumi pulls his boyfriend close again for another affectionate kiss.

He may pretend to huff and puff over things like the necessity of getting dressed, but Megumi clearly isn't above being goofy with his boyfriend. ]

Why not? It's my birthday.

[ If there was ever going to be a day where he would be allowed to stay attached to Megumi for as long as he wanted, it would be this day. He has a valid excuse and everything!

Letting Megumi dress him is easy, and he settles into it with a bright smile, happy and content with the warmth of the moment. It's tender, and he leans in to take the kiss with a small, pleased sound, arms wrapping around Megumi again.

He is not immune to the allure of his boyfriend. ]

[ New version of the old problem: with Yuji's arms around Megumi again, the sweater won't go lower than his shoulders. Oh well. Megumi just wants to return those kisses, content to set aside his usual fastidious routine in favor of indulging Yuji. ]

Hm, good point.

[ He presses a kiss to the corner of Yuji's mouth. ] Guess that means you can, if you want.

But it's just gonna make breakfast take longer.

[ Yuji can't help the way he laughs into the kisses, wiggling closer and pushing himself into his boyfriend's space to kiss him harder, to steal as many as he can get away with before he's bonked on the head and forced to leave it be. He wants more, of course, but for now...

He can relent, just a little.

Reaching out, he picks Megumi up and spins him with a tight hug before putting him down and letting him go. ]

Okay, okay. Breakfast time.

[gyokukenkon]

[ The startled noise out of Megumi is almost comical when Yuji lifts him off the floor, spinning him in a tight hug and depositing him back in place before Megumi even has a chance to complain. Instead, he just looks a little off-kilter for a second, blinking and then recovering shortly to reach out and ruffle Yuji's hair before he's out of reach. ]

Come on, you little menace.

[ To the kitchen! Where Megumi stashed the small birthday cake he baked especially for Yuji. ]

I'm not!

[ But he is trailing out after Megumi like a puppy all the same, no hesitation, because he loves him. ]

You said I was good!

[gyokukenkon]

You can be good and a menace.

[ His tone is somehow bland and affectionate as he leads the way to the kitchen.

Once they make it to the well-stocked kitchen space, Megumi points at the closest seat for Yuji as he goes right to the cabinet to pull out everything he needs for toast and eggs. ]

You, sit.

[eyescar]

[ Yuji just laughs, following after him. When he's told to sit down, he shakes his head but plops down all the same, totally prepared to do as he's told and be a good boy.

If he had a tail, it would be wagging. ]

I'm not a dog, you know.

[gyokukenkon]

I'm aware.

[ He's very aware, even if Yuji is practically the platonic ideal of "golden retriever boyfriend." And though he sets out everything he needs for the normal breakfast, he leaves the ingredients and frying pan by the stove before he goes to fetch the cute little cake he baked yesterday from the fridge.

Bringing the dessert over, Megumi presents it on the counter in front of Yuji so he can read the little birthday message that Megumi painstakingly wrote in chocolate frosting – well-wishes and Yuji's name on a chocolate heart.

It's disgustingly adorable and clearly took a lot of time. ]

Dogs don't usually eat birthday cakes.

[eyescar]

[ Yuji really isn't expecting the cake - he's sitting, about ready to get his phone out and start looking through the internet - when Megumi comes back over, and he's lifting his head up.

Huh? Eyes widening, he leans down to look at the cake with an awed expression. ]

Megumi...

[ Reaching out, he pulls it closer. Why is he getting so emotional...? ]

... Did you make this?

[gyokukenkon]

[ Megumi nods, watching Yuji carefully. He doesn't have to guess with Yuji's emotions – which is a relief, more than he realizes – but he's still cautious about vulnerable things, like making a whole birthday cake for your boyfriend.

But Yuji seems to like it, so... ]

That's why I didn't join you yesterday. [ Otherwise, he definitely would have indulged in a day-out with Yuji and everyone else. ]

You were baking this...?

[ It's such a simple thing, but to Yuji... It means a lot. The idea of someone spending time making a cake for him, caring enough about him to want to cherish him... His gut twists, just a little.

Megumi really loves him...

Reaching out, he opens his arms. ]

Come here.

[gyokukenkon]

[ Megumi still has that half-uncertain look on his face as he processes Yuji's reaction, but... he thinks this is going well? He's literally never done this for someone before, and he's clearly out of his element – but as soon as Yuji reaches for him, that anxiety seems to melt away.

Stepping around the counter, Megumi settles in the circle of Yuji's arms, resting a hand on his boyfriend's shoulder. ]

I didn't ask what you flavor you wanted, so I just guessed. [ So he hopes?? It tastes fine??? ]

[ Yuji leans up as soon as Megumi is close enough, tilting his head up to steal a kiss - a little harder, an edge of desperation to it, bringing him as close as he can get and squeezing. He loves him, he loves him so much...

When he's done, he nuzzles into his neck. ]
