[ Sneaking booze out of the variety of available locations on campus is practically a rite of passage for young sorcerers. School is hard, life sucks, and alcohol is kept ready and waiting for the adults – so who's going to miss a few beers?
Megumi turns out to be more of a lightweight than he expected, so he stops after his first can, deciding to wait out the bulk of his intoxication before trying another. He doesn't like feeling out of control of himself or his faculties, and getting drunk is... basically being out of control of himself and his faculties.
But it's a late weekend night, just Megumi and Yuji, sitting on Megumi's bed with a movie on in the background. Yuji says something about Megumi's technique, about a roomful of rabbits, so Megumi clarifies, ]
I can summon one at a time, too. It doesn't just have to a mass of them. [ The sea of rabbits tends to be more convenient in battle for confusing or disorienting opponents. ]
[ Yuji hasn't ever really had alcohol before - sure, he'd tried some of grandpa's sake once upon a time, but he hadn't drunk it, not more than a sip, and this feels a little more grown up than all of that. He had been a kid then, sipping and hoping for the best, but this...? This was drinking for a purpose.
Compared to Megumi, he seems to be able to hold it well, and all he can do is blame grandpa's genes for that one. He never seemed to get too tipsy, no matter what he ended up drowning himself in during those darker, sadder evenings, maybe when he was remembering his son and daughter.
Rubbing his face, he leans over and looking over at his friend, the pout on his face not going anywhere. ]
[ Wow, Yuji is... so cute with his eyes big like that, leaning close and blinking up at him. Damn it.
Clearing his throat to banish the bright pink tinge in his cheeks, courtesy of something other than the alcohol, Megumi brings his hands together, fingers slotting into place for the incantation. ]
Datto.
[ Megumi's shadow shifts below him, undulating in the overhead light and sliding like liquid over the bed. The flat, dark blob stops next to Yuji, and then two long ears pop into the third-dimension like they're leaping off the page of a book. A wiggling bunny nose follows before the shikigami hops out of the pitch-black shadow, plopping down between Yuji and Megumi.
Letting his hands fall out of position, Megumi gestures at the creature like "tadahh." The shikigami busies itself with sniffing at Yuji, blinking red eyes and twitching its little nose. ]
[ Flushed red and excited, Yuji leans forward and feels himself wobble a little as he looks at the bunny. It's so cute - not that Nue, or the divine dog, or any of the others aren't cute, but there's something particularly precious about the little white rabbits, especially with the way they've taken care of him in the past.
Leaning down, he reaches out to pick the bunny up and hold it in his arms. ]
You're so cute... Aah..
[ Slowly leaning in, he nuzzles his face into the rabbit's soft, fluffy body. ]
[ Oh no, Yuji is even cuter snuggling the rabbit... It kind of makes Megumi want to reach out and nuzzle into Yuji's pink hair in the same way.
... Fuck, Megumi's got it so bad for his best friend.
Unlike a flesh-and-blood rabbit, the shadow bunny doesn't kick or fight while cuddled close, even allowing Yuji to squish his face into its fluffy fur. Watching Yuji with the bunny, the smallest, tenderest smile tugs at the corner of Megumi's lips. ]
The shikigami can make pretty decent companions.
[ Megumi would often prefer their company to that of most other people in the world. (Except Yuji.) ]
Did you have them around a lot when you were younger? Before you moved in with Gojo-sensei.
[ Yuji is petting the rabbit absently, stroking at its ears, drawing it closer and laughing softly. It's making him happy, and with the added buzz of the alcohol...
He's feeling pretty good.
Continuing to nuzzle at the rabbit, he closes his eyes. ]
I wish I had this kind of technique... It would be so cool...
[ It was good practice to keep the shikigami deployed for long stretches of time – and Megumi enjoyed having a big, comforting creature to wrap his arms around when he was feeling especially lonesome. He often fell asleep with his face buried in fur, the comforting rise and fall of a divine dog's chest beneath him. ]
It has its limitations, though. You're a lot stronger than me, even with my technique.
oops all bunnies

Fushiguro, that's so cute... The bunnies...

[ A genuinely given compliment, soft as Yuji keeps petting at the rabbit. It's hard to focus completely on what he's saying, but... ]
I think I'd rather have a technique. It seems more useful in a real fight, y'know?
