Similar, but different. I've known onmyouji who use shikigami. They're more like conjured creations. Demons are their own sentient beings. More difficult to control and cooperate with, but stronger, with more potential to grow.
That's still really impressive. It takes someone really dedicated to do that kind of thing.

Well, people are born with cursed techniques. Sometimes you might be able to use a cursed object, but having cursed energy makes it better, easier. There was a thing, recently, that 'awoke' other people, but that's not something you'd want to do voluntarily.

[Another thought strikes him.] This world doesn't seem to have demons. While I wish mine had come along with me... maybe it's best they didn't.

We're going to work it out. Once we've saved our friends, it'll all be fine.
[ Yuji has to cling to that, keep the belief together, because if he doesn't then that might be the end. He can't permit himself to fall apart, not when they're so close. ]
Are they a part of you? Or is it some kind of agreement?
Ah, more like the latter. They usually have to be negotiated with into working with me. Sometimes that means fighting, but not always. From me, they get more energy to use their abilities, meaning they can get stronger, learn more things. In exchange, they help me with all manner of things, not just combat. Most people can't see them, for example.
[So they can get places he can't. Makes investigations a breeze.]
They would be very useful here, but maybe it's not a good idea to introduce demons into a place that doesn't seem to have them.
I don't know. I suppose I could ask, but I'm sure they want to save their resources to bring more people here, rather than something like that.
[He might just need to figure out what life is supposed to be for a summoner who can no longer summon. It's been something on his mind a lot since he arrived. Perhaps considering what happened to him at home right before arriving here, he shouldn't be a summoner anymore anyway...
He sighs lightly at that thought.]
Perhaps I need to figure out a new path for my life. Whatever that might be. Still a defender of people, if nothing else.
[ Yuji hasn't had any limitations since coming here, and has thrown himself into the deep end, so to speak. He would do anything to help people, he knows that, but... Maybe he could be a little more careful in future. ]
That's what I want to do, too. All I ever wanted was to protect people.
[These two have far too much in common, Raidou being the exact same way. Maybe not the best area for anyone to overlap, but so it goes. Raidou's already even got one lecture for pushing himself too hard in a sim of all things, working himself to the point of exhaustion. And from Nanami nonetheless.
